Extending the world which we came to know with the original movie, that was supposed to stay a one shot wonder from 1998 has received a complimentary sequel. Which I have believed to be a reboot of the movie since the leading ladies and male love interest shared many similarities. Until Ms. Mukai was heavily hinted at for being a single mother, but with a husband who disappeared long ago. Also that Monaka's gun which is the same one which Sawa (Ms. Mukai's real name) used in Kite. Though in Kite Liberator a sci-fi twist has been added in seamlessly. Monaka lives with her uncle who is a trusting man who believes that Monaka is merely babysitting at late hours when in fact she is either working at a maid cafe or murdering perverts with a trail of dead little girls behind them. Similar targets to that of Kite. Though the real interesting job is the space agency in tokyo commissions a special job for Monaka to take out a monster, that had hitched a ride with the escape pod. Who just so happens to be her father, who recognizes her from the bracelet her had made for her for her birthday! And when Monaka is in the car of the scientist who had given her father the food which made his bones grow, contorting to the man into a beast, she point blank shoots the bastard.
Now, something that we don't see in this sequel is how Monaka became an assassin, the "Angel of Death" who leaves behind silver feathers after each kill. That was a huge plot point the original special. Though it was not so missed that much, but how Kite Liberator was able to perfectly recreate the ending which Kite had created that left you very satisfied, but still aching for more. This show did exactly that and more. I really want to know how Mukai survived now, but that is just the mystery which the Kite series has given us.
This 54 minutes show can be found on Netflix along with the first film. Now i warn you, sort of, that they tone down the blood splatter and the amount of nudity. But all in all really enjoyable.
